Your Favorites. Don't leave home without 'em

Have you ever been in the situation where you met a new friend on your travels and you start discussing a great website, but for the life of you, you can remember the exact site name.

Now you can take your bookmarks with you and you can still leave your PC at home. Welcome to Web 2.0. The new face of the Internet is starting to catch on and it is known as the social network. Services such as DEL.ICIO.US (yes that is a website) and Ma.gnolia.com allow you to upload your personal book marks for on line storage. Once your book marks are added you can log into your DEL.ICIO.US or Ma.gnolia.com account from any computer or public kiosk. Voilla all your favorites when ever and where ever your are.

Another great feature of the site is that you can publish your bookmarks so that they are available to be search by the rest of the Internet community. Or you can search other published list to see what other people are browsing for these days.

If you are going to use one of these services be sure to add http://www.rent-my-escape.com/ to your favorites.

Don't trade that next great picture for that "Out of Memory" error!

So modern technology brings us many advantages like to ability to store a thousand pictures on our digital cameras.

But what happens when your on the vacation of your life capturing the moment and suddenly the dreaded "Out of Memory" displays on your camera's screen. Now you spend time scrolling through photos and removing the ones you can live with out. To late though, you lost that great moment or that award winning photo.

Online photo processing to the rescue. Increasingly many travelers have access to a computer systems at their vacation destination. By investing a few minutes every couple of nights you can have your photos into the processing lab and ready to be picked up when your return home. Or better yet picked up by someone at home so that they can enjoy your photos while you are still living the adventure.

Most major photo processing centers now offer the ability to upload your digital photos directly to their website for next day processing at a cost of anywhere for 13 to 18 cents / photo. The other interesting thing is that they also leave these photos on their servers in your private repository to give you the option to come back for re-prints.

This is a great way to manage your memory card and have your photos ready to pick up. See if your favorite photo processor offers the option and sign-up for the service before you leave on your next trip and avoid being "Out of Memory". Don't forget to document their website, your user ID and password.

On the Road with a Local Phone Number

Sure there are options to stay in touch with friends and family such as email and instant messaging. But there is no substitution to hearing a loved one's voice at the other end of the phone. If you travel with your laptop or certain PDA's (Personal Digital Assistant) staying in touch via voice has never been easier or cheaper.

Voice over Internet or VOIP as it is called in the industry allows phone calls to be made world wide over the Internet. One of the largest free players is Skype(tm). With the purchase of a $20.00 set of head phones with microphone you can stay in touch with friends and family at little or no cost.

All that is required is registration with Skype via their website www.skype.com, installation of their software, a computer/laptop, a set of head phones and an Internet connection. Ask for high speed Internet when choosing a place to stay and voila your phone moves with you.

Skype provides free voice communication for Skype to Skype users. If you would like to have calls from your home base local calling area you will need to pay for a SkypeIn number at a very reasonable cost. Check their website for a number in your calling area. Once your are setup and you log into your system friends and family will be able to call the local number to get in touch and share in the excitement of your travels. If you don't want to miss a call Skype also offers a voice mail option.

North American users can also take advantage of Skypes flat rate North American calling plan where you can use their service to make phone calls to Canada, The USA & Mexico without on going expenses.

Our family has been using the SkypeIn & SkypeOut option for a little over a year and are very please with the over all experience.

We Like To Travel

Out and About in Niagara-on-the-Lake

So the holidays bring more opportunity to travel. During our break my wife and I took some time in Niagara-on-the-Lake. While in the quaint village we choose to stay at the Bruce Manor Bed & Breakfast. We found the property on Rent-My-Escape.com which has been a really great site for finding accomodations in Ontario.I hope that I don't get in trouble for this one but their description from the Rent-My-Escape.com site is as follows.Bruce Manor is a Bed & Breakfast which offers accommodation in a quiet setting in the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake within easy walking distance of all theatres, shops, The Shaw Festival, Fort George, Niagara Historical Museum, tennis courts, swimming pool and the scenic Niagara River pathway for hiking, biking and roller blading. Located adjacent to the beautiful Bruce Trail, Bruce Manor exudes ambience and privacy offering large, pet-free, smoke-free, air conditioned rooms with private entrances, ensuites, lounging areas, kitchenettes and balcony overlooking the gardens and pool. Breakfasts include fresh seasonal fruits, delicious hot entrees, oven-fresh home baking and out homemade jams and jellies. At Bruce Manor enjoy breakfast in the privacy of your own suite, in the dining room or poolside against the natural wooded backdrop of the Bruce Trail.A delightful short walk will find you at the Shaw Festival Theatres. in the unique shopping and hospitality of Queen Street or the quaint fasicination of our more than 200 year old town. ( Find for photos see: http://www.rentmyescape.com their property id is 1244 )The Inn Keepers were very pleasent and were able to give us some of the best recommendations of places to eat and visit. Diner at the Pillar and Post was second to none. But bring your credit card. They also helped with my wife's candy addiction by pointing us towards a little shop called the Candy Safari.... Good thing I don't like sweets to much other wise we would have spent the night there instead.Only 10 minutes away you will find Niagara Falls and the Casino's of Niagara. Be sure to visit Fallsview Casino Resort. From what I am told in compares well to anything in Las Vegas. The place is amazing and we sure had alot of fun.

Easy Cottage Access
I was talking to someone about the new Blog an they had mentioned the neatest idea that they had seen on a rental cottage in Ontario. For security reasons, instead of hiding the cottage key in the flower pot or BBQ, the owner installed one of those keypad type entry systems that you can purchase from just about any Home Depot.A couple of days before their departure, the vacation property owner called them with the code that they should use to get into the cottage. Now instead of worrying about a unauthorized vacations, the property owner / manager just changes the pass code to the door from time to time.I think this is a great concept for any villa, cottage or B & B.

Huntsville, Ontario in the Snow
Huntsville, Ontario! What a beautiful place to stay. Even if you don't snowmobile it's worth the drive up to Huntsville in the winter. There are quite a few bed & breakfasts as well as some fantastic rental condo-hotels. The kind that are more like a resort then a hotel. When you are there, be sure to check out the snow-tubing and if you arrive for WinterFest you'll be in luck with even more events. After your outdoor activities theres nothing like sitting by a fireplace watching the snow fall on evergreens from your picture window. Here are some private places to rent in Huntsville or look into hotels and resorts. Now matter what you do, Huntsville is a great place to relax in the winter. And if you snowmobile, drag them up there. Check out the trail conditions in Huntsville here and remember you will need a license to ride on these trails!!I'll be heading up there again this winter.

Parry Sound Ontario Resort
My family and I are frequent travellers travelling though out Ontario with our trailer. This is great for the summer months but as the seasons change the colder weather posses challenges.
This year we choose to eliminate our travel barriers, we started surfing the net to find reasonable accommodations in areas we would like see. Our first destination the Whitfield Resort right on Oastler Lake. The resort fit the budget and the area was amazing. The area is a hub for train activity but it makes for amazing train trestles as the tracks cut through the valleys and across the many lakes.
Stay posted for more adventures and neat findings.
